Hello PTA Members,

For those of you who I haven’t had the honor of meeting yet, my name is Denise Morgan and I have been serving this current term as Vice President – Director of Programs & Logistics for Third District.  I am so excited to share with all of you the upcoming leadership opportunities for the Third District!

I have had the great pleasure of speaking with many of you to learn more about your communities, and why you do the volunteer work that you do within those communities.  I have heard from many of you about the reasons you show up, and so I thought this would be a good chance to share the reason why I am a PTA volunteer and serve on the Third District leadership team.

I have always known that our PTA units serve a vital role in our education system by providing connections and support between families, teachers and their school leaders.  I see it a bit like the glue that can keep us all focused on the needs of the students.  And I see there is a need to speak up on behalf of our students, particularly students with disabilities, within our education system.  I also believe there is a need to involve and inform parents and families in a way that meets them where they’re at.  All of these needs I believe can be met when parents and families are given the opportunity to learn and advocate at the local, regional and state level through their roles in CA State PTA.

My personal, biggest focus area has to do with ensuring that every child learns to read so they can have their best chance of academic success.  That’s it.  Simple, right?  But it’s not.  And so, if I want to ensure that I use my time to make equitable literacy for all students a reality, I know that I must commit to learning, volunteering and growing and it’s the leadership experiences within the Third District and CA State PTA that continues to provide these opportunities.  So, I am willing to make this sacrifice to fill a personal desire of mine to advocate for all children to achieve literacy.
